A gadfly upsets the status quo by posing different or novel questions, or just being an irritant.
Socrates pointed out that dissent, like the gadfly, was easy to swat, but the cost to society of silencing individuals who were irritating could be very high.
The Supreme Court got this one right. Congratulations to all of the people impacted by this decision. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved in all states as soon as possible. Nice!
